This report shares findings from a study commissioned by the Department for Transport. It looks at what helps or stops people from using more than one type of public transport in a single journey.
The research aimed to:
understand what affects people’s transport choices for journeys where rail might be part of the trip
explore how people currently experience multi-modal journeys
find out what changes might encourage more people to use them
Research took place between February and March 2025 and engaged a total of 67 participants via:
an online community
in-depth interviews
focus groups
